About Sangea Academy

SANGEA (PRONOUNCED SAN-GAY)

Is best described as a girl’s name, meaning female leader in Liberia, West Africa where women play an indispensable role within society, so important that you cannot avoid a famous saying from Africa that claims, “If you teach a man, you teach a person, but if you teach a woman, you teach a village”. It is in the clapping hands of the women where the energetic and lively rhythms that Sangea Academy teaches first started and were passed on from generations to generations even before the djembe (drum) was created.

COMPANY MISSION

As an academy, we believe that anyone has the ability to play and dance with us, as it is our mission to share and preserve the West African culture through music so that we can build cultural bridges around the world in much needed times.
